His eminence, the Metropolitan of Kykkos & Tillyria, Mr. Nikiforos, was born on May 2 1947, in Kritou Marottou village in the prefecture of Pafos. After his graduation from the elementary school of his homeland, he was recruited as a novice monk at the Holy Kykkos Monastery where he served for six years, while he also attended the three-grade Greek School. Afterwards he was sent to Lefkosia, as a Monastery Scholar, where he continued his studies at the Kykkos Lyceum, and graduated in 1969.
On April 6, 1969 he was ordained to the first degree of priesthood by the late Archbishop Makarios III., and joined the monastic brotherhood of the Holy Kykkos Monastery. He was enrolled at the Aristotle University Law School in 1970 and graduated in 1974. Then, under scholarship from the Holy Kykkos Monastery, he continued his studies at the Theological School of the Athens University from which he graduated in 1978.
On September 8, 1979 he was ordained to the second degree of priesthood by the late Archbishop Chrysostomos I., and named Archimandrite.
Since then, he served for six years as teacher in the Theological School “Apostolos Barnabas”, five years as the President of the Church Court of Lefkosia, and three years as a Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus, while from 1979 until the end of 1983, he served the Holy Kykkos Monastery as a member of its Abbot’s Council.
On December 28, 1983, the Brotherhood of the Holy Kykkos Monastery, elected him under secret vote, to the position of the Monastery’s Abbot, and on January 14, 1984, his enthronement took place at the Holy Monastery of Kykkos, under the overriding Archbishop Chrysostomos I.
On June 25, 2001, the City of Athens awarded him with the Highest Honors for his multifarious work.
On February 18, 2002, he was elected Bishop of Kykkos by the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus, ordained and enthroned on February 24, 2002. On May 9, 2007 he was unanimously elected Metropolitan of the newly established Kykkos & Tillyria Metropolis, by the clergy elective assembly, and assumed office on May 13, 2007.
He remained a member of the Board of the University of Cyprus, and is now a member of the Administrative Board of the European University of Cyprus.
On June 2008, the Pastoral and Social Theology department of the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki and on October 23, 2008 the Social Theology department of the Ethnical and Capodistrial University of Athens, nominated him with the title of the Honorary Doctor.
